Adrian Cheng Welcomes Daryl Ng, Philip Sohmen, Ronald Chan, and Winnie Chiu to HKAWL Board

Strategic appointments bring powerhouse expertise from real estate, education, investment, and hospitality to fortify Hong Kong’s status as a global family office hub.

HONG KONG, 24 March 2026 – The Hong Kong Academy for Wealth Legacy (HKAWL), led by Chairman Dr Adrian Cheng, today announced four key appointments to its Board of Directors, effective 17 January 2026. Mr Daryl Ng Win Kong and Mr Philip Sohmen have been appointed as Vice-Chairmen, joined by Mr Ronald Chan Wai-yan and Ms Winnie Chiu Wing-kwan as new Board Members.

The expansion brings together a prominent group of leaders from real estate, education, investment, and hospitality. Their collective expertise strengthens the Academy’s ability to guide global families in creating sustainable, high-impact legacies and fortifies its mission to cement Hong Kong as the world’s pre-eminent family office hub.

As Vice-Chairmen, Mr Daryl Ng and Mr Philip Sohmen will join Adrian Cheng in steering the Academy’s strategic direction. Mr Daryl Ng, Chairman of Sino Group, brings extensive experience in real estate and business innovation, paired with a deep commitment to community. His proven track record of weaving sustainability into his group’s core operations will offer invaluable insight on how families can structure their legacies to create tangible social and environmental impact. Mr Philip Sohmen, Co-Founder of the award-winning YK Pao School, brings deep experience in education and family philanthropy to support HKAWL’s work to support families translating their family values into actions that encourage responsible stewardship across generations.

The appointments of Mr Ronald Chan and Ms Winnie Chiu add critical new perspectives to the Board’s capabilities. Mr Ronald Chan, the Founder and CIO of Chartwell Capital, is a strong advocate for Hong Kong as a global family office hub. His perspective as a respected investment strategist offers the Board crucial insights into long-term wealth preservation and growth. Ms Winnie Chiu, Chairperson and Executive Director of Dorsett Hospitality International, is a dynamic leader in global hospitality. Her expertise in creating world-class experiences, combined with her passionate support for the arts, youth and education, provides vital insight into the lifestyle and cultural pillars of modern family legacy.

Dr Adrian Cheng, Chairman of HKAWL, commented: “With Daryl, Philip, Ronald and Winnie on Board, HKAWL is deepening and scaling its work to help families to develop legacy strategically, cementing Hong Kong’s role as a leading global family office hub that creates shared value for society.”

Mr Daryl Ng, Vice-Chairman of HKAWL, said: “As Hong Kong’s family office ecosystem continues to grow, I am convinced HKAWL is critically placed to embed sustainability and social impact into how families steward their capital for future generations.”

Mr Philip Sohmen, Vice-Chairman of HKAWL, added: “I look forward to supporting HKAWL’s efforts to help families place equal importance on values and education as they do on financial capital, so that future generations are equipped  to lead with purpose and commitment.”

Mr Ronald Chan, Board Member of HKAWL, said: “By combining disciplined, long-term investment principles with a strong sense of responsibility, HKAWL can help families preserve and grow their wealth in ways that remain resilient and relevant across generations.”

Mr Winnie Chiu, Board Member of HKAWL, commented: “As a third generation in family business, we understand the importance of legacy and values across every stage of family office development. I am confident that Hong Kong, and HKAWL in particular, is well placed to equip family offices to create lasting impact, both financially as well as for the society.”

These appointments come as HKAWL continues to build significant momentum. Over the past two years, the Academy has engaged over 3,100 family asset owners and next-generation leaders through more than 20 capacity-building events. New milestones also include the Impact Link Online Portal (iLink Online) launch, which aims to connect philanthropists and family offices with high-impact charitable projects, and strategic partnerships with global institutions like the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, underscore its growing role as a dynamic “super-connector” for families worldwide.
