Hong Kong is known for its rich philanthropic history and culture of benevolence; its philanthropic sector is recognised as one of the most vibrant and promising cities around the globe. In 2023, the HKSAR Government issued a new policy statement with the aim of leveraging Hong Kong's unique strengths in philanthropic development, asset management, and its role as a connector between Mainland China and the rest of the world, to establish Hong Kong as a regional philanthropic hub. It is envisioned that Hong Kong will become a hub for nurturing talent in the philanthropic sector, attracting philanthropic capital, and fostering collaborations among stakeholders.
This symposium aims to encourage discussions among participants regarding the infrastructure and resources required to establish Hong Kong as a regional philanthropic hub. The first part "Policy Dialogue" will address this topic by examining the policy measures, the roles of family offices and corporations, and the alignment of global trends of shared values and sustainability in the corporate sector. The second part, the panel discussion will feature four local, China and international speakers with different perspectives, to introduce and discuss the emerging trends of philanthropy and impact investment in Asia-Pacific. Their insights will provide valuable guidance for the future development and positioning of Hong Kong in the philanthropic domain.
