The Israeli life sciences and health tech sector is world renowned and home to over 1750 innovative technology companies across four major subsectors - digital health, medical devices, biotechnology and pharmaceutical therapeutics. On an annual basis, total exports of Israeli life science companies range between US$8bn to US$9bn.

The industry has grown rapidly with over 42% in digital health companies surpassing medical devices, in recent years, Israel the “start-up nation” has become the “digital health nation”, with explosive growth, now becoming the second largest hub of digital health innovation outside of the USA.

Israeli scientists and engineers have integrated advanced technologies in electronics, communications, and electro-optics to develop world-class innovations in various areas such as digital imaging, medical lasers, telemedicine, early diagnostics and smart surgical with over 750 digital health companies across the following seven sub sectors:
1. Decision support
2. Remote monitoring
3. Assistive devices
4. Digital therapeutics
5. Clinical workflow
6. Diagnostics
7. Patient engagement

Investments have increased five times in the past five years in digital health, crossing US$1.8bn of funding in 2021. In parallel to digital health, the Israeli government and Innovation Authority in the last two years has promoted a focus on bio-convergence technologies – the convergence between biotech, software and engineering. Those technologies are bringing the most advanced disruptive solutions to the medical industry and the various therapeutics areas.

We look forward to hosting you at the next Hong Kong-Israel Collaboration Workshop Series: Life Sciences and Healthcare - From ‘start-up nation’ to ‘Digital Health’ nation organised by the FSDC on 30 November 2022 (4:00pm to 5:30pm HKT).
